While almost all of the hype around "Big Data" revolves around technology, tools and types of data, people are still the engine needed to drive success. Recent research from TechRepublic and ZDNet reinforces this all too-often overlooked fact.

They found that 51% of companies have not yet started any big data projects. The main culprit for that sluggish number - lack of talent. 73% reported having difficulty finding qualified employees to lead their efforts forward.

Interestingly, of those who did move forward, they wholeheartedly endorse the benefits of their activities, across a range of potential business functions.
